Learning engine canvas example

What is the learning engine canvas?

The learning engine canvas is a key piece of the Platform Design Toolkit. This unique visual provides a step-by-step framework to help you design services that encourage your entities to embrace your platform strategy. Its unique process framework is designed to help your entities become better producers and consumers while also spurring their evolution and exploration of newer, better ideas and behaviors.

Benefits of using the learning engine canvas

While the necessity for a learning engine might not seem obvious when talking about your platform strategy, there are many benefits that come from applying its framework. The step-by-step guide allows users to tackle key challenges at each stage of designing their services.

For example, the learning engine canvas can provide you with the necessary framework to help you identify what obstacles your entities face when initially trying to decide which services to use to meet a particular need. From there, you can brainstorm key aids and resources to support each ecosystem entity in overcoming these obstacles and becoming the best and most effective they can be.

How to use the learning engine canvas in Lucidspark

Here’s how to get started with the learning engine canvas:

  1. On the left side of your canvas, place each entity-role into a box. Then, track how each one changes and evolves as it moves through each of the three steps: Onboarding, Getting Better, and Catching New Opportunity.
  2. Next, try to picture how each entity-role might evolve to the next level. For example, what would need to occur or be provided in order for a consumer to become a producer? Invite your team to your board at this step to gather as much additional insight as you can—whether collaborating in real time or asynchronously, this will help you get a full picture of your entities.
  3. By the end of your exercise, you should have a solid understanding of what services each of your entities need from your platform strategy in order for them to keep improving over time. Share your findings with your stakeholders by inviting them to view your finished product, then let the strategizing begin.
