Craft a message that sticks with the help of a template

Communication is key, especially when the message you’re trying to send is important. Take charge of your message with the “craft a message that sticks” template, created for Lucidspark in collaboration with ExperiencePoint. This tool can help you identify the essential specifics of your message and communicate it more effectively.

This template is ideal for moments when you need to send an important email, prepare talking points for a meeting, communicate your vision to a team or committee, or write a compelling proposal. The “craft a message that sticks” template can help you create a message that will make people want to listen, help your audience understand and remember your point, and get your listeners excited.

How to use the “craft a message that sticks” template in Lucidspark

When we try to communicate big ideas, we often get lost in abstract concepts, complex language, and specific jargon. The “craft a message that sticks” template helps you avoid these tendencies by providing three main criteria to test your message against.

To get started with the template, share it on your Lucidspark whiteboard. Write your basic, unrefined message on the dark blue sticky notes provided and use these three corresponding sections to:

  • Keep it simple: Try different ways of rewriting your message so that it’s easier for a wide audience to understand. Use short, simple, clear sentences and avoid any jargon.
  • Make it personal: Try different ways of rewriting your message so that it highlights specific, concrete benefits to human beings.
  • Paint a picture: Try different ways of rewriting your message so that it includes easy-to-visualize details about the future your message promises.

Add different ideas to each section with sticky notes. Then, use the sections under “Create a Destination Postcard” to brainstorm some words or phrases you could use to create a simple, personal, and-easy to-picture message.

Use the first section to take a mental trip to the future. Imagine that everything you want to happen as a result of your message has happened. Look around and determine what you see and hear, and what people are doing differently. Add some descriptive phrases to that section.

Lastly, craft a complete message using some of the phrases you’ve brainstormed, including descriptions of the results you’ve envisioned.

If you’re brainstorming with a group, you can use Breakout Boards to assign different sections of the template to smaller groups, leave emojis and comments to react to certain ideas, try the Gather tool to group similar ideas, and vote to determine the most popular ideas.

As you come up with new and dynamic ways to phrase your message, you’ll be able to more easily communicate the details in ways that will stick with your audience and motivate them to join you in your efforts.
