BlueDragon Hyper-Integrated Causal Analysis Framework®
We've collaborated with BlueDragon to create this template based on the BlueDragon Hyper-Integrated Causal Analysis Framework®. Brainstorm ways to improve your processes by identifying the roots of your problems, stopping recurring events, reducing corrective action backlogs, and returning wasted time and money to mission critical tasks.

What is the BlueDragon Hyper-Integrated Causal Analysis Framework?
BlueDragon Hyper-Integrated Causal Analysis (HCA) is an advancement in root cause analysis that emphasizes efficiency and critical thinking to pinpoint human-centric problems that are costing the business money. This is important because regulated industries—such as Energy, Aerospace, Food and Drug, Transportation, and Healthcare—are subject to laws requiring root cause analysis (RCA), but RCA often requires proprietary software that doesn’t provide enough detail to target complex problems.
BlueDragon HCA provides a framework to understanding the complex human factors, equipment issues, and programmatic inefficiencies affecting the bottom line.
Benefits of using the BlueDragon HCA
The BlueDragon HCA template replaces many RCA tools by seamlessly integrating traditional approaches that have been done separately. It can replace the fishbone, 5-whys, events and causal factors charts, barrier analysis, task analysis, change analysis, and comparative timeline analysis—and integrate all that information into a single analysis.
BlueDragon HCA helps businesses determine what’s actually causing problems without relying on conjecture, prevent repetitive waste and reduce corrective action backlogs, and put money back into building business value instead of wasting it on repairing past actions.
How to use the BlueDragon HCA template in Lucidspark
The BlueDragon HCA template is broken down into two phases to guide the root cause analysis:
- Phase 1: Determine the problem at hand, then gather information and develop a timeline.
- Phase 2: Analyze and identify the deepest-seated causes.
Follow the instructions within the template to begin the BlueDragon HCA analysis. Use collaborator colors to get a variety of perspectives and Frames to draw the collaborators’ attention to specific parts of the infinite canvas.
To make the analysis more collaborative and to ensure all necessary stakeholders are involved, share the analysis with the broader team for feedback. Invite your collaborators to leave comments, or try using the Notes panel to add additional context to your analysis.
Lucidspark works especially well for remote and distributed teams—they may work asynchronously on the template within their individual working hours and the template is updated in real time.
